A question that I get asked often is if I believe in using tracer stickers on my baits. It really all depends on the situation for me. Certain times of year can be very beneficial and other times I don’t see the point. My vision is horrible so it helps to have something bright for my eyes to follow. I like to use tracer stickers when I throw a wake or when im fishing a bait subsurface. Being able to track you’re bait can be very beneficial. Especially when you’re around a lot of activity. I fish a hard bait subsurface a lot in the warmer months. It is a really good technique around overhead cover. Watching fish come out to eat it from the canopies is a great time. They’re nice to use on a wake and can really help when you’re barely creeping it with a little bit of ripple on the surface. They can also be helpful when throwing a glide bait in shallow water situations. It’s a nice addition when pitching into shade pockets. I generally fish a glide relatively close to the surface when doing this. You can track your bait even in lowlight conditions. I don’t see the point in using them when you are fishing a bait on the crank down. In those situations, I like to present a bait the most natural that I possibly can. Gives me the confidence to get more bites. That doesn’t mean that it won’t get bit. It just means that I personally don’t prefer to use them with that technique. There are a few brands out there that make the stickers but I stick with the DRT Sightmarkers. You can find them on drtusafishing.com for $9.99 and they’re available in three colors. I use the chartreuse the most but you can also find them in pink and orange. The tracer stickers certainly have a time and place. If you feel like it will benefit your big bait game, give them a shot.
