They say a pictures worth a thousand words, but I feel the same can be said about a bait. As a consumer, it’s easy to take for granted how much work truly goes into these things. One bait maker that has always stood out to me is Kassano. The guy is a true mechanic with his hands. I had got into contact with him awhile back about buying a Kasaball gill but due to some complications it just wasn’t in the cards. That all changed when my buddy took a trip to Japan. I got the two in contact with one another and he got the bait for me. This bait was more than worth the wait. One of those baits that looks like it belongs on a shelf instead of getting covered in teeth marks and hook rash. I’ve always had a lot of confidence in Bluegill baits especially out here on the Delta. The Kasaball has a very true swimming action and can be waked on the surface or cranked down to the 3-5 foot range. The best setup I’ve found for the this style of bait is a Spiralite Maverick 7’10HF paired up with a Shimano Bantam and P-Line 20 pound Tactical Fluorocarbon. You can use a 8 foot rod but its a little overpowering at times. This style of bait works great around ambush points such as isolated vegetation, tules, overhead cover, and flats with deep water access. Bite size Gill baits are flat out fish catching machines and the Kasaball continues that trend.
