The warm months are finally here and the frog bite is aggressively heating up. In the midst of this, there's a company attempting to make a comeback. That company is Snagproof. Back in the day, the only frogs I would throw were made by them. I was beyond loyal when it came to sticking by their frogs. Didn't matter what new frog came out I was only gonna throw a Snagproof. They were at the top of the game in my opinion. That was up until 2017 when it all seemed to go downhill. They dealt with a few ownership changes as well as manufacturers. That wasn't ideal because in return the quality of the product seemed to take the biggest hit. This sadly forced my hand and made me switch things up all together. I started fishing other brands and it really turned Snagproof into an afterthought. They were recently purchased by American Bait Works. A company that's been around for awhile and has quite the track record for selling quality products. This gave me a lot of confidence that it would turn things back around for them. They debuted their new Phat Frog at the Bassmaster Classic and I jumped at the opportunity to buy a few as soon as I saw they were available. The Phat Frog was one of my favorites back in the day. It was a little bit bigger than the Bobby's Perfect and it offered a different profile. The new one impressed me right out of the box. They've got killer paint jobs and the plastic is very soft. I do make one upgrade though and that is change the hook. It's not mandatory but it's necessary for me. The bleeding red Owner hook fits perfectly on this frog. Rather than have the hook points aimed downward towards the body of the bait, the hook lays on top of the frog. This hook isn't as weedless by any means but the bite it offers is night and day. The only test left was to fish it. It didn't take long to catch fish on it either. Snagproof has made massive strides with this new frog. It walks very easily and is quite durable as well. One major flaw that Snagproof has always had was the fact that the weights seemed to fall out if you even as much as blew on them. They made sure to fix that issue with these new ones. I've rung it off docks, rocks, and the trolling motor more than a handful of times and it hasn't even budged. To say that Snagproof completely turned it around would be an understatement. These frogs are very impressive and I'm looking forward to the release of the new Bobby's Perfect frog in the coming months. If you haven't given the new Phat Frog a try, you're missing the mark. They're worth the purchase.
